Conundrum

Broderie cardigan is almost done. Some ends to weave in and fix the closure. I’ve put it off for a while now but a few days ago I decided to get it over with. But as I tried to position the buttons, it just didn’t feel right.

I did have a small ball of yarn with me when I bought the buttons. They’re white mother of pearl. But maybe a bit smaller and a more matching colour.

SYTYCK – Freaked out today

First some good news. I haven’t worked on my Vine yoke cardigan for a while now because I was worried it was too short. Others have had the same concerns but were totally fine. Even so, since it’s a completely different yarn, yesterday I soaked the sleeve part and it stretched out nicely (about 5cm without pulling or pinning). So now I can continue. Yay!

From Knitted

I did decide on a project late last night and even ordered yarn. It was , I think, the first project I had in mind. But today I as I read others blog posts I started questioning my decision. Am I really challenging myself and staying true to the Broadway style? I totally freaked out and sent an email to see if I could change my order. It will therefore be sent a day later and might not arrive until next week.

Although I am a bit hesitant I am not changing project, but as for the colours…Well lets wait for the package to get here. That said I think I will add a little bit more work into colour. I think the only multiple colours/fair isle project with many different colours that I’ve wanted to do is the Ivy league vest. It is stunning but I would like to have different colours and that will be my other challenge: to work out a colour scheme for when I get the time and money to knit this project.

Sorry if I’m rambling. Now I’ll be watching Gray’s anatomy and knit on vine yoke. Yay again! 🙂

Progress

My white top-down raglan is coming along nicely. I’m taking a short break while I figure out how long I want it. It’s on 4.5 mm needles so it is rather quick, which is good so it will be finished before I get tired of all the stockinette.

From Knitted

In the meantime a new project has of course been started. I finally found a yarn that was suitable for the vine yoke cardigan (Ysolda Teague). Drops baby merino held double on 5mm needles gave me the correct row gauge. It is a great pattern and I’ve really enjoyed knitting. I started on Saturday and when I went to bed Sunday evening I had just worked the first row on the back. Truly an amazing pattern.

From Knitted

By the way, I’ve completed all the knitting on Broderie. Only need to weave in ends and make the closure.

Will the yarn be enough?

I’m at home sick, but not too sick as I have just enough energy to knit and listen to a book.

Broderie is progressing slowly but surely. One of the sleeves are knitted to their final length, but not cast off. Hopefully the yarn will be enough to make the second sleeve equally long.

From Knitted

I started on another cardigan yesterday, and am already on the third ball. Lets hope I have enough to make what I have planned. I do think it is only due to the fact that I like rather dense knitted fabric, and so am using a smaller needle size compared to the projects I looked at to estimate yardage….

A sweater for an octopus

I’ve knitted an octopus worth of sleeves on my Broderie. I do not like seaming, but there was a time when I really questioned not knitting the sleeves as the pattern said.  Unfortunately I am not sure how much yarn I have. Therefore the top down approach.

Hopefully, I am now knitting the final version of the sleeves. The good thing though is that I now know how to knit set-in sleeves. The final version is basically taken from Wendy Bernard’s Custom knits, with short row shaping.

From Knitted

There’s is not much left now. Though I did realise that when knitting larger items like sweaters I tend to change gauge. Both sleeves are knit at a tighter gauge than the upper body. As long as it I’ll be happy.

I like progress

Broderie is coming along nicely. As is seen in the picture I’m knitting on the sleeves. First time I tried so I just winged it…had to frog it completely. Second try looks more promising. I’m pondering changing the bottom, add some sort of hemming to not have it curl.

Only a third of the last row left on the shawl.

Progress

I just don’t understand how so many knitters can finish shawls so quickly. When I went to France I only had 3 or 4 rows left. Since I got back from France I’ve continued knitting but it’s still not finished. The third to last row, a patterned row, took 1.5 hours to complete. Now on the last row (there’s no cast off row) I’ve only managed to knit about a third. It is very scary because the edging looks a bit too big. Hopefully blocking it will make everything alright.

It was the first time I knitted on a plane. Just fabulous. Broderie is coming along nicely, and it actually fits this time. I’ve started knitting the bottom part after I took this photo.

Now I’m heading up to M’s family’s sommer house to celebrate Midsummer. It is a big event with a very large portion of his relatives. Hopefully the weather won’t suck and that I can knit on Broderie.

More WIPS

Three more WIPS, but I think that’s it. There might be one or two more in a drawer that I started a long time ago. These three were all started last year.

Miyake:

Pattern and yarn from design-club.dk. This is a long term project. It will be finished sometime, maybe later than sooner. But it will be finished.

Golden chai:

This project is more about the yarn than what I’ve actually started knitting. It is the cone of Artfibers’ Golden chai that I bought last year in San Francisco. I have started knitting a Coachella from Knitty. I do not get the correct gauge and I’ve tried to get it to not be too low in the front. But the too low issue is why I stopped knitting. So, frogging is in this projects future. I’m not sure what to make though. Either try again with Coachella or maybe I’ll try to make Jewel from Wendy Bernard’s Custom knits.

Eiffel:

The last project is also something that will be finished. However, it might be  frogged first, because I’m a little hesitant about the size. This is Eiffel from Knitty in Allhemp 6. This is something that’s  been on my to-do list ever since I first saw the pattern and that’s why I bought this yarn last year.

My current WIP

Sometime during spring last year I started knitting on Drops 105, 34 in muskat in colour 74 (petrol). As often is the case I was a bit delusional when starting, thinking it would be done in a jiffy. As if. But that is not why I did not finish it. This is why (sorry about the bad photo).

From Knitted

I don’t remember what size I chose to knit but it was definitely too big.

From Knitted

Before frogging it I will check it to see what size because I still like the design and might knit it someday. But this  particular yarn is now being knit up as a cardigan. Hopefully I have enough. It should at least be enough for a cardigan with shorter sleeves and i do like 3/4-length.

From Knitted

This is Broderie by Connie Chang Chinchio from the winter issue of Twist Collective. It was love at first sight. I started it last week (on the 12th). The gauge is a little bit off and I’m combining two sizes to fit my body better. It’s a great knit. Nice pattern. The only problem is that there is a few knots in the yarn and that my  3.5 mm knit picks options needle tip is broken. The thread is worn out. Luckily I had a spare lace needle which hopefully won’t change my gauge too much.

A beautiful morning

A beustiful sunrise:

Yesterday morning that is. I’ve made some progress on the Fiddlehead mittens. I spun the last colour after I finished knitting, and now I’m just waiting for the last contrast colour to dry to finish the first mitten. Or at least half the first mitten. Lining will be added after I finish both.

There’s also been some progress on the Triinu shawl, Till minne. Very soon I will pass the halfway point on the centre piece. Two thirds of the height is already done but that is another story. In March next year I will attend another workshop with Triinu Andreasson again. It’s going to be great.
