Knitting in France

May 24, 2009

I’m in France for a workshop for work. The weather is great. Yesterday was sunny and about 30 degrees C. I got burnt, especially on my forehead and chest. So today I’ll stay in the shade and get some more knitting done.

I brought only one project – Broderie. But I knew it wouldn’t be a problem, I’ve wanted to pick this up for a while now. I’ve soon knitted to where I was before frogging. Hopefully this time it fits (crossing my fingers).

Now I’ll go and see if there is a place in the shade overlooking the sea where I can sit and knit.

No knitting in Germany

September 2, 2008

I’m currently in Germany. Aachen to be precise. All business and no pleasure. At least were crafting is concerned. I did bring my first spindle (the one I got when I took the spinning course last year) and the mohair fibre. There won’t be much progress while I’m here but when I get home this weekend I will have quite some time to do whatever crafting I like.

Yesterday we attended an organ recital in the Aachen Cathedral. It’s a magnificent building with intricate mosaic on the walls and ceiling. Well worth a visit.

Productive vacation

July 30, 2008

We’re back home after our vacation. It’s been very relaxing and due to some not so great weather the first week I’ve had quite a lot of time for knitting (and spinning). This is the view from where I’ve been sitting and knitting. Great isn’t it.

There are a few things I will post about but I really can’t wait so I’ll start with the best one. I got the idea for this when I remembered I’ve seen a pattern named Muir when planning our trip to San Francisco. I started the project before going with a vain idea I’d finish it before we went there…Uh that didn’t happen but we did go to see the redwoods in Muir woods national park and now I’ve finished the shawl.

Triangular Muir

Pattern: The leaf pattern is Muir from Knitty. I made a trianlge and composed a border.

Yarn: Lucca fino multicolor

Needles: 5mm Harmony woods options

Size: About 180cm wide at the top

Comments: It was too big to fit on the hopscotch puzzle so I had to block it doubled. Not the ultimate solution. So  I will most likely buy another set of the puzzle in the future. I’m very happy with the border. It took several swatches and some trials with Excel (with the aid of Marnie’s tutorials) to finally get it right.

California Coastline

May 5, 2008

We reached San Francisco yesterday afternoon. The drive up from San Diego was absolutely amazing. We stayed on highway 1 as much as possible. This is just how amazing the view can be.

California Coastline

So to something knitting related. I’ve tried to get an appointment with Carolina Homespun. But unfortunateley they’re off to Maryland Sheep and Wool this week. I wanted to buy some fibers but also a Bosworth spindle. Well I’ll just have to order online but it would have been great to look and feel them before buying. I will however visit Artfibers and Imagiknit. We have internet the rest of the week and I’m of course equipt with a camera so maybe I’ll post something later this week on the stash additions.
